{"id":121,"date":"2014-04-22T20:53:55","date_gmt":"2014-04-23T02:53:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/?p=121"},"modified":"2014-04-22T20:53:55","modified_gmt":"2014-04-23T02:53:55","slug":"splitting-the-cases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.pavq.com\/?p=121","title":{"rendered":"Splitting the Cases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As it were.<\/p>\n<p>I found a fairly nice engine stand on Craigslist for $50, listed as needing a caster.\u00a0 And indeed, it was short a caster.\u00a0 And the casters they used were apparently completely non-stock units, because I couldn&#8217;t find anything that had the same bolt pattern on the mounting plates anywhere online.\u00a0 Fortunately, I know a welder.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude09\u00a0 So, I just cut out some mounting plates, clamped them on 90 degrees to the original caster direction (so the bolt heads would clear the legs) and welded on the plates, then bolted the casters I had kicking around on to the plates.\u00a0 See, <strong>that&#8217;s<\/strong> why I never throw anything away.\u00a0 You never know when it&#8217;s going to be useful!\u00a0 It&#8217;s totally not because I&#8217;m a pack-rat.\u00a0 That accomplished, I picked up the engine, unbolted the transmission from it, and put it on the stand.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/engine_hanging.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-117\" alt=\"engine_hanging\" src=\"http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/engine_hanging-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/engine_hanging-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/engine_hanging-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/engine_hanging.jpg 1296w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I pretty quickly pulled the rocker covers and intake, and because I was curious, I bought a cheap scale to weigh the heads with.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/engine_no_intake.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-118\" alt=\"engine_no_intake\" src=\"http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/engine_no_intake-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/engine_no_intake-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/engine_no_intake-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/engine_no_intake.jpg 1296w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/scale.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-116\" alt=\"scale\" src=\"http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/scale-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/scale-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/scale-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/scale.jpg 1296w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Not as heavy as I was expecting, really.\u00a0 After that, I removed the water pump, the oil pan, and the oil pump.\u00a0 Apparently my skill at this &#8220;expectations&#8221;
