{"id":75,"date":"2014-02-26T12:03:57","date_gmt":"2014-02-26T18:03:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/?p=75"},"modified":"2014-02-27T08:56:14","modified_gmt":"2014-02-27T14:56:14","slug":"daylight-pictures-treasure-hunt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.pavq.com\/?p=75","title":{"rendered":"Daylight pictures, treasure hunt!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Given that the last picture I posted of Vector progress was shot at night, under a single fluorescent fixture, here&#8217;s a shot of it at the current stage of disassembly taken during the day so you can actually see things.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/vector_20140223_1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"vector_20140223_1\" src=\"http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/vector_20140223_1-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/vector_20140223_2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"vector_20140223_2\" src=\"http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/vector_20140223_2-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So, as previously mentioned, the shop was a working motorcycle repair facility for thirty years.\u00a0 Over thirty years, stuff accumulates.\u00a0 And then gets buried.\u00a0 And then there&#8217;s a surprise for everyone when they get unearthed!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/blower.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-48\" alt=\"blower\" src=\"http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/blower-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/blower-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/blower-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/blower.jpg 1296w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sadly, not as useful as one might hope, but possibly of aesthetic use down the road.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/starter_ammo.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-51\" alt=\"starter_ammo\" src=\"http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/starter_ammo-225x300.jpg\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/starter_ammo-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/starter_ammo-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/starter_ammo.jpg 972w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A whole <strong>crate<\/strong> of ammo for internet flame wars&#8230;\u00a0 \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n<p>Being a deserty sort of place, New Mexico has its share of moderately unfriendly flora and fauna.\u00a0 When it rains, the plants all know that it&#8217;s time to grow like hell, and breed like crazy, so the pollen counts can get pretty high, and the pollen itself is pretty aggressive.\u00a0 And there&#8217;s the usual sort of poisonous insects, lizards, etc, everything from gila monsters and rattlesnakes to scorpions, black widows, and tarantulas, hornets, bees, and wasps.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve got the friendliest bees (Carpenter bees [<em>Xylocopa varipuncta<\/em>], are about 3x the size of a regular bumblebee, and have a very heavy, ponderous flight pattern.\u00a0 The females are glossy black, and have a stinger, while the males are yellow and fuzzy, and lack a stinger.\u00a0 They&#8217;re also fairly curious, so if one comes upon you, it&#8217;ll probably circle around you for a while.\u00a0 But they&#8217;re harmless, and will usually get bored and go away after a while.) and the most amazingly vicious wasps (Pepsis wasps [<i>Pepsis grossa<\/i>], A.K.A. &#8220;Tarantula hawks&#8221; are shiny, iridescent blue and purple, very aggressive, and have one of the most [if not <strong>the<\/strong> most] painful stings of any insect in the United States.\u00a0 As the name implies, they kill and eat tarantulas.) but I&#8217;d never seen <strong>anything<\/strong> like this before&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/shelob.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"shelob\" src=\"http:\/\/pavq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/shelob-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Given that the last picture I posted of Vector progress was shot at night, under a single fluorescent fixture, here&#8217;s a shot of it at the current stage of disassembly taken during the day so you can actually see things.
